Metaplasia in the ileal reservoir
firmed these findings in a small group of patients. It appears that destruction of the glandular basement membrane and the immediately surrounding sheath of supporting cells prevents orderly regeneration. When applying a strict definition of atrophy, as proposed by Genta (8), it is highly unlikely that cure of H. pylon infection will result in restitutlo ad integrum i.e., glandular parenchyma r...
متن کاملRestorative proctocolectomy with ileal reservoir: a pathophysiological assessment.
A metabolic and physiological assessment was carried out in 14 patients who had undergone restorative proctocolectomy with ileal reservoir more than six months previously. The haemoglobin was normal in all but one and plasma electrolytes and serum albumin, calcium, phosphorus, and red cell folate estimations were normal in all. Five patients had low serum iron levels of whom one had an iron def...

PURPOSE A new endorectal pull-through technique using a transanal approach is presented in this report. METHODS Mucosectomy, colectomy, and pull-through are performed transanally, and neither laparotomy or laparoscopy are required. Five patients affected with Hirschsprung's disease have been operated on with this technique. CONCLUSION During the 6- to 15-month follow-up period, all of them ...
متن کاملPolypoid mucosal prolapse in a pelvic ileal reservoir.
A case of a patient who developed a polypoid area of mucosal prolapse three and a half years after having an ileoanal pouch for ulcerative colitis is presented. This seems to be the first published report. This new manifestation of mucosal prolapse in a pelvic ileal reservoir underlines that the pouch as a neorectum is subject to disorders familiar in the rectum.
متن کاملRestorative Proctocolectomy with Ileal Reservoir: Pouch Configuration and Volume
Restorative proctocolectomy with ileal reservoir has become an accepted form of treatment for ulcerative colitis and familial adenomatous polyposis. Five types of reservoirs have been developed: the S pouch, J pouch, H pouch, W pouch and K pouch. This paper reviews the differences in the clinical and functional outcomes among the various reservoir designs and their sizes. From the results of th...
